Alberta Radio and TV Station Photos from the John in Montana Collection
The Alberta radio and TV stations photos from the John in Montana collection are listed in alphabetical order by call letters.
CFAC: The CFAC Radio 960 studios and tower photo is from 1975. CFAC came on the air in 1922 as CQCA and changed to CHQC in just 7 days.
CFAC-TV: CFAC TV Channel 2 Calgary on air test pattern from 1974.
CFCN: CFCN Radio Calgary came on the air in 1921, moving to 1060 in 1947. They changed call letters to CKMX in 1992. This station
and tower photo is from 1975.

CFCN-TV had a satellite station in Lethbridge. The station and tower are pictured in this
photo from 1975.
CHEC: Here is a station photo from CHEC "check" Radio 1090 Lethbridge from 1975. Note the wonderful sign on the building.
CHEC came on the air in 1959. They changed their call letters to CKRX in 1993. Then in 1996 the change was made to FM 95.5 with the call letters CHLB.
CHQR: The station photo of CHQR Radio 810 is of their downtown Calgary location in 1975. The CHQR call letters are now on 770.
CJDV: Heading to Drumheller, we find CJDV Radio 910. The photo is of their studios in 1975. CJDV 910 came on the air in 1958. They changed
call letters to CKDQ in 1981. The CJDV call letters ended up in Cambridge, Ontario on an FM there. Note the dinosaur logo. The company starting CJDV was
called Dinosaur Broadcasting.
CJOC: The station photo of the CJOC "c-jock" Radio 1220 Lethbridge studios is from 1975. Jock Palmer put CJOC on the air in 1926 with
50 watts on 1000. In the early years the station switched frequencies often, but ended up on 1220 in 1948. Sadly, in 2000 they moved to 106.7 FM.
CJOC-TV: The CJOC-TV Channel 7 Lethbridge studios and tower photo is from 1975. Channel 7 came on the air in 1955 as
CJLH-TV. They were CJOC-TV from 1972 until 1976. Now they are CJLH-TV.
The on air CJOC-TV Channel 7 ID is from 1974.
CKXL: The CKXL Radio 1140 Calgary studio photo is from 1975. They are now CHRB and in High River.
CKYL: Heading north to Peace River we have a 1998 photo of the CKYL Radio 610 studios on 100th Avenue.
They came on the air in 1954 on 630 and moved to 610 in the early 1960s.
