Nevada Radio and TV Station Photos from the John in Montana Collection

The Nevada radio and TV stations photos from the John in Montana collection are listed in alphabetical order by call letters. Black Mountain: The Black Mountain antenna farm is located adjacent to I-515 in Henderson. Numerous TV and FM transmitters and towers can be seen in this 2011 photo.
KBAD: 920 in Las Vegas started out as KORK. See KORK below. In 1997 the call letters were changed to KBAD. Their three tower array and transmitter are located at the corner of North Simmons Street and Holly Avenue. Studios are located at 8755 West Flamingo Road as seen in 2011.
KBET: KBET Radio 790 licensed to Winchester came on the air in 2005 serving the Las Vegas area. Their transmitter and four tower array are located in north-east Las Vegas along South Hollywood Boulevard.

KCYE: KCYE FM 102.7 Boulder City vehicle seen in Las Vegas in 2011.
KDWN: KDWN Radio 720 Las Vegas came on the air in 1974. Transmitter and three tower array are located at the corner of Galleria Drive and McCormick Road east of Las Vegas and north of Henderson as seen in these photos from 2011.


The KDWN studios are located at 1455 East Tropicana in Suite 800 as seen in this photo from 2011. The studios for KCYE 102.7 and KKLZ 96.3 are also located here. A KDWN vehicle was spotted in the parking lot.


KENO: KENO Radio 1460 came on the air in 1940 as Las Vegas' first radio station. In 1970 the station was located in the building pictured. Currently the station broadcasts from a shared tower site along with KBAD 920 located at the corner of North Simmons St. and Holly Ave. See KBAD above.
KHBV-TV: The KHBV-TV Channel 5 Henderson on air ID is from 1970. The station signed on the air in 1967 broadcasting from a converted Flying A gas station along the Boulder Highway near Sunset Road. The call letters were changed to KVVU in 1971. See KVVU below.
KHDF TV: The KHDF TV 19.1 Las Vegas ID is from 2011.
KINC TV: Channel 15 Las Vegas started in 1993 as KZIR. In 1995 the call letters were changed to KINC.
Studios are located at 500 Pilot Road in Paradise just south of the Las Vegas airport as seen in these photos from 2011.

The KINC TV live truck was spotted in 2011.

KJUL: 104.3 FM in Las Vegas is currently KFRH. At one time the KJUL call letters were on 104.3 (Now 104.7). An older KJUL 104.3 van was spotted at the KDWN 720 transmitter site in 2011.
KKLZ: 96.3 FM Las Vegas started in 1983 as KITT with a top 40 format. In 1986 the call letters were changed to KKLZ with a format change to classic rock format evolving into classic hits. A newer KKLZ vehicle was spotted in 2011. An older vehicle was parked at the KDWN 720 transmitter.
KLAS TV: KLAS TV Channel 8 Las Vegas started out in 1953 as Nevada's first TV station. Howard Hughes owned this station in the 1960's. Here's an on air ID from 1970 and a 1970 photo of their 3228 Channel 8 Drive studios before all of the additions were made to the site.
The station looked a lot different in 2011 as seen in these photos.

The once parking lot is now filled in with the KLAS offices and studios.




Photos include the KLAS sign, entry to station, back of building signage, and a news vehicle.






KLAV: KLAV Radio 1230 Las Vegas came on the air in 1947. There was a brief period in 1985 whe the call letters were changed to KEZD, but by 1987 they were back to KLAV. The KLAV transmitter and tower are located on Brooks Street as seen in these photos from 2011.

KLSQ: KLSQ 870 licensed to Whitney serves Las Vegas. Their three tower array is located in the Mission Hills area of Handerson as seen in this photo from 2011. The towers are thin and painted to blend in with the area.
KLUC: The KLUC Radio 1140 North Las Vegas studio photo is from 1970. 1140 has changed call letters numerous times since coming on the air in 1956 as KRSR. They also have been KMMJ, KXNO, KSFN, and now KYDZ.
KLVX TV: KLVX TV Channel 10 Las Vegas came on the air in 1968 as Nevada's first public TV station. The on air ID is from about two years later. The station has evolved over the years. Vegas PBS studios are located at 3050 East Flamingo Road as seen in this photo from 2011.

KMZQ: 670 Las Vegas started out in 2003 as KSXX, but changed to KBTB in 2004. The current KMZQ call letters started in 2008. Studios for KMZQ 670, KVEG FM 97.5 and KVGQ FM 106.9 are located at 3999 Las Vegas Boulevard South as seen in these photos from 2011.

KNUU: KVEG 970 Las Vegas started out in 1962. Now 970 is licensed to Paradise with the KNUU call letters. KNUU studios are located at 1455 East Tropicana as seen in these photos from 2011.

Their transmitter and five tower antenna array are located on South Rainbow Boulevard as seen in this photo from 2011.
KOAS: While KOAS 105.7 is licensed to Dolan Springs, Arizona, they have an FM booster transmitter on 105.7 in Henderson. A KOAS vehicle was seen in 2011 while in Las Vegas.

KORK: The KORK Radio 920 Las Vegas station photo is from 1970. The station changed call letters to KBAD in 1997, see KBAD above.
KORK-TV: In 1955 KLRJ-TV Channel 2 came on the air, later that year they changed call letters to KORK-TV. In 1967 Channel 2 moved to Channel 3 to avoid interference with newly signed on KTVN Reno. The photo of the KORK-TV studios is from 1970 before call letters were changed to KVBC later that year. In 2010 they changed to KSNV (see below).
The on air KORK TV Channel 3 ID is from 1970.
KPLV: A KPLV Radio FM 93.1 Las Vegas billboard was spotted in 2011.
KQLL: 1280 is licensed to Henderson, serving the Las Vegas market. The station came on the air in 1956 at KREL and in 1991 changed to KDOL. In 1998 to KDOX. Starting out 2011 they became KQLL. Signage on their studios still reflected the KDOX call letters in late 2011. KJUL FM 104.7 studios are also at 150 Spectrum Boulevard as seen in these photos from 2011. KQLL 1280 shares a tower with KSHP 1400. The tower on North Martin Luther King Blvd is seen in this photo from 2011.
KQRT: A KQRT vehicle was spotted in 2011 while in Las Vegas. 105.1 started out in 1989 as KRBO, then KVBC in 1996, KRNN in 2000, and then to KQRT in 2003.
KRAM: The photo of the KRAM Radio 1340 studios located in the Airport Office Building at 5441 Paradise Road is from 1970. Note that "Royal Airline" was also in the building. The KRAM call letters are now on 1070 in Klamath, Oregon.
KRGN: The KRGN-FM 101.9 Las Vegas studio photo is from 1970. The station came on the air in 1963. Now they are KWID and known as La Preciosa Las Vegas. The KRGN call letters are now in Amarillo, Texas.
KRLV: 1340 Las Vegas started out in 1947 as KORK (The KORK calls were also on 920, see above). That changed to KRAM, then in 1988 to KMTW, and in 1995 to KRLV.
The transmitter and antenna are located on Del Rey Avenue as seen in these photos from 2011.

KRRN: Two KRRN FM 92.7 Las Vegas vehicles were seen while in Las Vegas in 2011.

The station is licensed to Moapa Valley, Nevada and serves the Las Vegas market with a regional Mexican format using the slogan "El Gato" (The Cat).
KSHO-TV: Channel 13 Las Vegas came on the air in 1956 as KSHO-TV. The station and tower photo is how their 3355 South Valley View Boulevard location looked in 1970. The KSHO TV on air ID is also from 1970. Call letters were changed to KTNV in 1980. See KTNV below.

KSHP: KKDD 1400 Las Vegas started on 1410, moved to 1400; in 1996 calls were changed to KSHP. The station broadcasts a shopping format along with some sports. Their tower is shared with KQLL 1280 (see above) and is located along North Martin Luther King Blvd and studios are located at 2400 South Jones Blvd as seen in these photo from 2011.
KSNV TV: In 1955 KLRJ-TV Channel 2 came on the air. The call letters were changed to KORK-TV later that year. See KORK-TV above. In 1967 KTVN Channel 2 Reno came on the air, and to avoid interference, KORK-TV moved to Channel 3. In 1970 KORK-TV changed call letters to KVBC. In 1970 KORK-TV changed call letters to KVBC. Then in 2010 the calls were changed to KSNV. All of the KSNV photos are from 2011.

KSNV TV Channel 3 studios are located at 1500 Foremaster Lane in Las Vegas.


While on tour of KSNV, John and his wife Nancy sat at the news set.

The KSNV newsroom is used for some newscast elements.
The KSNV control room is kept busy with 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3 programming.


The area behind the KSNV building is filled with satellite dishes. The area is protected by the KSNV guard dog.
Traffic reporter Tom Hawley is seen standing next to Sky3. Tom has been with Channel 3 since 1988 doing traffic reporting from the stations helicopter or from the newsset. Tom was very kind to provide us with a very extensive tour of KSNV TV.
KTNV TV: Channel 13 Las Vegas started out in 1956 as KSHO-TV. See KSHO above. In 1980 the call letters were changed to KTNV.

The KTNV TV studios are located at 3355 South Valley View Boulevard as seen in thse photos from 2011.

KTUD TV: Channel 25 Las Vegas came on the air in 1999 as KCNG-LP, in 2000 that was changed to KTUD-LP (Now KTUD-LD. Known as "Vegas TV" studios are located at 6760 Surrey Street just south of McCarran International Airport as seen in these photos from 2011.

KVCW TV: Channel 33 Las Vegas came on the air in 1987 as KFBT. In 2008 the call letters were changed to KVCW. Studios are located at 3830 South Jones Boulevard in Las Vegas as seen in these photos from 2011. KVMY "My LV TV" Channel 22 studios are also located here.

KVEG FM: 97.5 FM is licensed to Mesquite, but serves the Las Vegas market.

A KVEG FM "Hot 97.5" billboard and vehicle were seen while in Las Vegas in 2011.


KVVU TV: Channel 5 Henderson came on the air in 1967 as KHBV-TV. See KHBV above. Call letters were changed to KVVU-TV in 1971. They were originally an independent station until 1986 when they became a Fox affiliate.
Studios are located along Sunset Road with access to the bulding from TV5 Drive.

Historians know that Johnny Carson once owned the station and paid numerous visits to the facility.

The KVVU photos of the facility at 25 TV5 Drive are from 2011.

KWNR: 95.5 FM Henderson started out in 1972 as KILA. In 1985 they changed to KYYX, and in 1987 to KLSQ. In 1989 they became KWNR. Serving Las Vegas, this billboard was seen in 2011.
KWWN: KWWN Radio 1100 Las Vegas came on the air in 2007. Their four tower array is located along North Martin Luther King Boulevard as seen in this photo from 2011.
KXNT: Radio 840 Las Vegas started out in 1986 as KVEG. They changed to KXNT in 1997. Owned by CBS Radio, studios are located at 7255 South Tenaya Way as seen in these photos from 2011. This is also the studios for KLUC 98.5; KMXB 94.1; KXNT 100.5; KXTE 107.5; and KYDZ 1140.
In the CBS Radio parking lot we noticed vehicles being washed before heading out to remotes.

KXTE: KXTE "X-107.5" FM is licensed to Pahrump. A KXTE vehicle was parked at CBS Radio.
