Oregon Radio and TV Station Photos from the John in Montana Collection
The Oregon radio and TV stations photos from the John in Montana collection are listed in alphabetical order by call letters.
KACI: This photo of the KACI AM 1300 and FM 97.7 studios on East 2nd Street in downtown The Dalles is from 2008. This building used to
be the studios for KMCQ 104.5 FM before moving to the Seattle area. Their van photo is also from 2008.
KAST: Heading to Astoria in 2006 we have two photos from KAST. KAST came on the air in 1922. Pictured is one of the two towers
used by KAST AM 1370 located behind the studios at 1006 West marine Drive. The small cardboard sign in the studio window for KAST FM
99.7 is the only signage on their building.
Portland: John received KATU Channel 2 Portland via skip reception from Sheridan, Wyoming a few times over
the years. This on air ID of a 770 DX reception is from 1971.
The next photo is from 2008 and is a screen capture from a
KATU-DT HD morning newscast. The proper aspect ratio photo is at the end of the Oregon page. KATU, K-2, came on the air in 1962.
They have always been located at 2153 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland.
KBCH: The photo of the KBCH Radio 1400 Lincoln City studios at their 800 SE Highway 101 location is from 2005.
KBCH came on the air in 1955.
KFXX: The next photo is from 2008 and shows the KFXX 1080 Portland towers located along NE Marine Drive. Note the
round transmitter building which has two stories. Equipment is located on the top floor as this location is subject to flooding.
Historians remember 1080 Portland being KWJJ or KOTK.
KGW-TV: KGW-TV Channel 8 Portland came on the air in 1956. Originally as an ABC affiliate, but in 1959 they became
NBC. The first screen capture is of an on air ID from 2005. The second is a screen shot from KGW-DT 8-1 HD news broadcast. There is a proper
aspect ratio photo at the bottom of the Oregon page. Note the wonderful shot of Mt. Hood behind the anchors.
KLBM: The KLBM Radio 1450 station photo is of their 2510 Cove Avenue location in La Grande. The photo was taken in 2008.
They have been at this location since 1971. KLBM came on the air in 1938. The call letters stand for K La grande Blue Mountains.
The KLBM van photo is also from 2008. Numerous sister station logos are featured on the van.
KNPT: The station photo of KNPT Radio 1310 Newport is from 2005. Studios are located at 906 SW Alder Street in
Newport. The station came on the air in 1948 and is the oldest station in Lincoln County.
KODL: The station photo for KODL Radio 1440 is from 2008. This is their downtown studios located at
404 East 2nd Street in The Dalles.
KOTI-TV: John received KOTI TV Channel 2 Klamath Falls on a skip reception in Sheridan, Wyoming. The on air photo of this 765 mile
DX reception is from 1961. Note the "Oregon's only mile high TV station" mention on the ID. KOTI-TV came on the air in 1956. The call letters
refer to the Oregon Technical Institute. Sadly, this station is now just a repeater station for KOBI TV Channel 5 in Medford.
KPTV-DT: The KPTV-DT 12-1 Portland screen shot is from 2008. KPTV Channel 12 came on the air in 1952. The call letters refer to Portland
TV. There is a proper aspect raito of the HD picture at the bottom of the Oregon page.
KSRV: The KSRV Radio 1380 Ontario photo of their studios and tower is from 2008. They are located at 1725 North Oregon Street.
KSWB: KSWB Radio 840 Seaside is locally owned by John Chapman who also hosts their morning show. Studios are located on the 2nd floor of
a building in downtown Seaside located at 615 Broadway. The 2006 photo is of the sign at the entrance to the station.
