WAEW: WAEW 1330 Crossville tower located between Highway 392 and 70 along 10th Street.
WAMB: WAMB Radio 1200 Nashville has a four tower array located at the intersection of Briley Parkway
and Ashland City Highway as seen in this photo from 2011.
WATE TV: Channel 6 came on the air in 1953 as WROL TV. They were Knoxville's first TV station. In 1955 the call letters
were changed to WATE TV. The station outgrew its first location and in 1962 they purchased Greystone mansion and converted it into
facilities for a TV broadcast station. The building, a
19th Century landmark, is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built for Union Civil
War Major Eldad Cicero Camp. The building is located at 1300 Broadway NE. The station
was an NBC affiliate from 1953 until 1979. They are now an ABC TV affiliate.

WATX: WATX is licensed to Algood, but tower and studios are located in Cookeville. Starting out on 1590 in 1981 as
WRZK. Calls were changed to WWRT in 1983, and to WATX in 1990. The studios in Cookeville include those for WBXE FM 93.7 Baxter;
WLQK FM 95.9 Livingston; and WKXD FM 106.9 Monterey as seen in the photo from 2011. The WATX 1600 tower is located at
800 Parragon Road.
WBBX: WBBX Radio 1410 Kingston, Tennessee is a daytime only station with studios and transmitter at 705 Greenwood
Street as seen in these photos from 2011. The station is owned by Pilgram Pathway and broadcasts a Gospel format.
WBIR TV: WBIR TV Channel 10 Knoxville came on the air in 1956. The station was owned by Jesse W. Birdwell who also
owned the then WBIR Radio 1240. The call letters come from the first three letters of BIRdwell.
The station is now owned by
Gannett.
They started out as a CBS affiliate which lasted until 1988 when they became NBC.
The station is located at 1010 Bill Williams Avenue as seen in these photos from 2011.
WBXX TV: Channel 20 Crossville came on the air in 1979 as WCPT and then in 1982 changed to WINT-TV. The change to WBXX-TV
was in 1997. The station serves the Knoxville market as a CW affiliate.

WCOR: WCOR Lebanon started out on 1490 where it broadcast for about 60 years until 2005 when they changed to 900.
Their tower, along with WANT FM 98.9's tower are located on Woodcliff Road as seen in this photo from 2011.
WCTE TV: WCTE TV Channel 22 Cookeville tower as seen in 2011.
WETR: WETR Radio 760 Knoxville has studios at 1621 East Magnolia Avenue as seen in this photo from 2011. The studios
for WRJZ 620 (see tower photo below), WYLV FM, and WDLF FM are also located here. Their tower is located just south of the Holston Hills Golf
and Country Club.
WIVK: WIVK FM 107.7 Knoxville came on the air in 1965. Their studios are located at 4711 Old Kingston Pike
along with other Citadel stations WNML 900, WNML FM 99.1 and WOKI FM 98.7. The story behing the frog logo came about in the mid 1970's when the
call letters were being pronounced
"wiv-ick, wiv-ick" sounding similar to a frog's croak.
The photos are from 2011. Note the use of the frog logo on
vehicles. A frog logo license plate was spotted.

WKOP TV: WKOP TV Channel 15 Knoxville came on the air in 1990. Studios are located at 1611 East Magnoloia Avenue
as seen in these photos from 2011. Note the Sesame Street sign.
Along with WEPT (see above) they are known as East Tennessee PBS.
WKRN TV: In 1953 WSIX TV came on the air on Channel 8 and in 1973 changed to channel 2 with a call change to
WNGE TV which lasted until 1983 when calls were changed to WKRN TV when Young Broadcasting purchased the station. The call letters
reflect their San Francisco, CA station KRON-TV. The WKRN-TV ID screen grabs are from 2011.
WKXD: FM 106.9 Monterey started out in 1985 as WMCZ, changed to WRJT in 1989, and in 1991 to WKXD. Studios are located
in Cookeville as seen in this photo from 2011.
WKXV: The WKXV Radio 900 tower is located on Peachwood Road NW in Knoxville.
WLAC: WLAC Radio 1510 Nashville came on the air in 1926. The call letters reflect the first owner, Life and
Casuality Insurance Company of Tennessee.
The transmitter building and towers are located on Dickerson Pike (Highways 11 / 31W) as
seen in these photos from 2011. The taller
tower is used for their daytime pattern and the two other towers are used for their nighttime
pattern which protects Spokane, Washington's KGA.
WLQK: WLQK FM 95.9 Livingston studios in Cookeville as seen in this photo from 2011.
WMDB: WMDB Radio 880 Nashville calls itself "The Big Mouth."
Studios, transmitter, and tower are located in
north Nashville on Stokers Lane as seen in these photos from 2011.
This station operates on clear channel 880 as a daytimer with 2500 Watts. The 2 Watts night power doesn't reach very far.
WMTY: WMTY Radio 670 Farragut serves the Knoxville market with "The True Oldies Channel" programming. Their transmitter
and tower are located north of I-40/I-75 along Everett Road as seen in this photo from 2011.
WNAH: WNAH Radio 1360 Nashville came on the air in 1949. The station was the first in Nashville to accept local
religious programs.
The station moved to the 44 Music Square East location in 1978. This photo is from 2011. The transmitter and tower are located east of
I-24 along Lotta Avenue. Note the Nashville skyline in the background.
WNML: 990 Knoxville started out at WNOX. The WIVK and WTNZ call letters were also used. Now WNML "The Sports Animal."
Transmitter and towers are locased on Anderson Road as seen in these photos from 2011.
WNQM: 1300 Nashville started out in 1945 as WMAK. In the 1960's the "WMAK Tigers" played top 40. In 1982 they
changed to WLUY, 1983 went dark. In 1984 F.W. Robbert Broadcasting started the station again as WNQM with a religious format.
Studios, transmitter, and towers are located bwtween the River and Ashland City Highway 12 as seen in these photos from 2011.
WNSR: WNSR Radio 560 Brentwood serves the Nashville area. Their daytime four tower array is located east of I-65 between
Highways 96 and 252 as seen in this photo from 2011. Their nighttime tower (not pictured) in near downtown Nashville.
WNVL: 1240 Nashville started out as WKDA and was WNSG from 1998 to 2005. Currently WVNL with a Regional Mexican format.
Studios are located with Cumulus stations WGFX 104.5 and WKDF 103.3 near downtown Nashville on 2nd Avenue South as seen in this photo
from 2011.
WPGD TV: WPGD TV Channel 50 Hendersonville broadcasts a religious format to Nashville from one of the newer digital
towers located at 3210 Blevins Road. The other tower is for WNPX TV.
WPLN: WPLN Radio 1430 is the AM part of Nashville Public Radio. Their four tower array is located in Madison on
Nesbitt Lane as seen in this photo from 2011.
WPLN FM: WPLN FM 90.3 along with AM 1430 has studios located at 630 Mainstream Drive in Nashville.
WPLN FM 90.3 started in 1972. The call letters stand for Public Library Nashville. In the beginning the station was a small
extension of Nashville's public library system broadcasting from the Richland Park Library. Now, along with WPLN 1430 (see above),
they are part of the much larger Nashville Public Radio system offering NPR programming to Nashville.
WPTN: WPTN Radio 780 Cookeville offers a country music format.
Their transmitter and tower are located along
Stadium Avenue as seen in these photos from 2011.
WRJZ: Radio 620 Knoxville was once WATE, then WETE, and in 1976 the change to WRJZ.
The tower site on Cliffside Lane went from two towers to one when a storm in June of 2011 took down one of the towers. Note the base
remains as seen in these photos from the fall of 2011.
WRVW: This tower in Nashville has antennas for WRVW FM, WCJK FM, WUBT FM, and WNFN FM.
WSEV: WSEV 930 Sevierville broadcasts from this tower on Burridge Drive as seen in 2011. The station is
a barker for events and activities in the area including Pigeon Forge and Dollywood. The station at one time was owned by Dolly
Parton.
WSM: WSM Nashville started in 1925. The call letters reflect the first owner, National Life and Accident Insurance Company's slogan
"We Shield Millions."
The WSM photos shown are from 2011. The first photo is of the studios located on Music Valley Drive near the
Gaylord Opryland
Resort and Convention Center. The WSM truck was parked near the studios.
WSM also has studios inside the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center. A historical display of WSM is featured along the
wall next to the studios.
The studios were not being used when the photo of the control room was taken.
The WSM transmitter and tower is located south of Nashville in Brentwood. The site is on the National Register of Historic Places.
There is a sign explaining some of the history.
The FCC antenna structure identification sign is on the gate to the transmitter building.
The WSM transmitter building was once the studios. Note the smaller tower to the left is an auxiliary antenna. The main WSM
tower is one of the five remaining Blaw-Knox towers left in the United States. The diamond-shaped tower is reflected in WSM
advertising. The tower built by Blaw-Knox Steel
Company of Pittsburgh was originally 878 feet. Engineers noticed a problem with
the signal cancelling out in some reception areas and in 1939 it was shortened to 808 feet.
The last two WSM tower photos show the midway point where guy wires are attached and the base of the tower. Note the feed
line.
WSMV TV: Channel 4 Nashville started out as WSM-TV in 1950 as Nashville's first TV station and Tennessee's 2nd TV station
(WMCT-TV Memphis was the first.) As with WSM radio, the call letters reflect the slogan of the then owner. "We Shield Millions."
The call letters were changed to
WSMV-TV in 1981. The WSMV-TV photos are from 2011. Studios, transmitter, and tower are located at 5700 Knob Road. During the 1960's this facility was
used to record some syndicated TV country music programs such as "The Porter Wagoner Show." The station once employeed Pat Sajak as an
announcer and weekend weatherman and John Tesh as a news anchor.
The tall WSMV-TV tower is also used for WZTV Channel 17, WSM-FM 95.5, WNPL FM 106.7, and WRVU FM 91.1.
WTNZ TV: Channel 43 Knoxville started out in 1983 as WKCH-TV and in 1994 changed to WTNZ (TeNneZ - Tennessee) and
have been with Fox TV since the start of the Fox Network.
Studios are located at 9000 Executive Park Drive in west Knoxville as
seen in these photos from 2011.
The station is owned by Raycom Media.
WTVF: Channel 5 Nashville started out in 1954 as WLAC-TV. Call letters were changed to WTVF in 1975.
Studios are located at 474 James Robertson Parkway as seen in these photos from 2011.
The station is owned by Landmark
Media Enterprises.
WTVF's transmitter, tower, and antenna are located at the end of Creek Trail Drive just east of I-24. Their tower is the middle
one in this photo from 2011.
WUXP TV: Channel 30 Nashville started in 1984 as WCAY In 1989 they changed to WXMT; to WUXP in 1996.
The on air ID is from 2011.
WVLT TV: Channel 8 Knoxville started out in 1953 as WSKT-TV. In 1954 the call letters were changed to WTVK and
then to WKXT-TV in 1988. In 1997 to WVLT reflecting the Volunteer State slogan. Studios are located at
6450 Papermill Drive as seen in these photos from 2011.
WVLZ: WVLZ Radio 1180 Knoxville broadcasts ESPN Sports.
Their transmitter and tower are located on Strawberry
Plains Pike as seen in these photos from 2011.
Note the "For Sale" sign on the farm next to the tower.
WVOL: Radio 1470 Nashville started out in 1951 as WSOK. They changed to WVOL in 1957. Studios are located at
1320 Brick Church Pike as seen in these photos from 2011.
The station is licensed to Berry Hill, but the 6 tower array is
near downtown Nashville behind the
studios at the Brick Church Pike location.
WWST: WWST FM 102.1 Knoxville billboard in 2011.
WZTV: Channel 17 Nashville started in 1968 as WMCV as the areas first UHF station and the states first independent
station. Due to problems the station went off the air in 1971. In 1976 it returned this time with the WZTV call letters.
Studios are located at 631 Mainstream Drive.
