a few years. Now they use the historic KDYL call letters which seem to have been on just about every frequency in Salt Lake City.
KSL: We start our KSL photos with a look at the KSL Radio 1160 and KSL-TV Channel 5 on Social Hall Avenue as they looked in 1970. This
short street one block long between State Street and 2nd East in downtown Salt Lake City was the location for KUTV next door to KSL and across the street
from KCPX for a number of years. All of the buildings have since been demolished.
KSL-TV Channel 5 came on the air in 1949 broadcasting from the radio stations studio facility on Social Hall Avenue until 1984.
The photo of the KSL-TV Channel 5 production truck is from 1970. At the time this photo was taken, the production truck was outside the
Temple Square Tabernacle broadcasting the Morman Tabernacle Chior.
Two KSL-TV Channel 5 on air IDs are next. The one with the CBS Eye logo is from 1969. The other with the then new 5 logo is from 1970.

The 5 Triad Center station entrance signage photo is from 2007.

Salt Lake. KSL Radio 1160 came on the air in 1922 as KZN on 1130. The frequency was moved to 1160. Briefly they became KFPT, but in 1925 the KSL call letters were
in place.

The next photo is of how that location looked in 2007. The AM tower is behind the station.
The KSOP 1370 Gold Country gold painted van photo is from 2007.

doing regular broadcasts as KDYL-TV. In 1953 the call letters were changed to KTVT and in 1959 to KCPX-TV when the station was purchased by
Columbia Pictures (CPX). The final call letter change to KTVX was made in 1975. The on air station ID using the "open
4" design is from 1976.
The next two photos are of their current location at 2175 West 1700 South. This is also the location for KUCW-TV Channel 30, CW30. The studio photos
are from 2007.
The KTVX station ID screen grab is from 2009.
KUED-TV: The KUED-TV Channel 7 on air test pattern is from 1970. KUED-TV is the PBS affiliate for Salt Lake City.
KUSW: While not a normal broadcast station, shortwave station KUSW was located in Salt Lake City in
the late 1980's until their final broadcast on December 16, 1990. The photo of the building and antenna system is from 1988.
The KUSW call letters are now on an FM station in Flora Vista, New Mexico. KUSW issued this QSL card to SWLers who sent in reports.
KUTV: Our first KUTV photo is from 1970 which shows their downtown 179 Social Hall Avenue studios. Note the NBC snake logo
on the building. This building was right next door to KSL-TV on Social Hall Avenue. KCPX was also located on Social Hall Avenue at this time.
KUTV came on the air in 1954 as an ABC affiliate, but in 1960 they switched network affiliation with channel 4, at the time KCPX-TV.
The on air test pattern photo is from 1961. Also from 1961 is an on air ID and promo for Robert Taylor in "The Detectives" which
aired on KUTV Saturday nights at 10 PM. The color ID is from 1970.
In 1995 KUTV became the CBS affiliate when Westinghouse Broadcasting purchased them (later Westinghouse became part of CBS).
NBC wanted to return to channel 4, but ended up on KSL-TV.
KUTV moved from the downtown Social Hall Avenue location to this location next. This photo is from 1979.
The next photo from 1980 shows a sign that says "Future Home of KUTV." This is the 2185 South 3000 West location that was used
until they moved back downtown to the Main Street studios in 2005.
KUTV moved from the 2185 South 3000 West location to this downtown 299 South Main Street location in the Wells Fargo building in 2003. The window under the big screen
monitor looks into the newsset. The background for the anchors on the set is the outside sceen.
